Bye bye old mezzanine...

We arrived home the past week end to see that the mezzanine was successfully broken down. Wow, it is easier now to imagine what our house will look like! Except that we were left with piles of rubble which we are taking out and keeping for future landscaping work (a new access road for example). 23 tons of broken concrete... it is hard work.

A la fin du week end il reste en gros un tiers de gravats à enlever.

Nous sommes arrivés à la maison le week end passé pour voir que la mezzanine était tombée avec succès et que le reste de la maison était toujours là! Nous pouvons à présent vraiment réaliser à qui le tout va ressembler. Il nous restait donc environ 23 tonnes de gravats à enlever. Nous les gardons pour des travaux de terrassement à venir: nouveau chemin pour arriver à la maison. Donc il faut remplir des seaux de béton cassé et les jeter par la fenêtre...

We alternated this unrewarding job of filling and emptying buckets with removing the old couch/platform area of our future living room. Another sturdy construction...

Nous alternons cette tâche très ingrate avec la destruction de l'ancien canapé/estrade du salon. C'était à nouveau du costaud, difficile à enelver, mais quel beau volume au final.

Of course we still have a lot of work checking how difficult it is to remove the ciment on the original stone walls, and we are spending more time trying different spots in the house...

 

Bien entendu, il y a toujours du ciment à enlever pour accéder aux murs de pierres originaux, alors nous y passons quelques quarts d'heure de temps en temps...
